Driving

It used to be a private adventure. It used to fun, relaxing, and a time when a man could just be alone with his machine.

Does anyone recall the days when no one would even consider interfering in other peoples' lives or daily activities? Does anyone recall the days when only a madman might use a car as a weapon to interfere with others?
The rude, attack-mode, aggressive driving has nothing to do with today's economic environment... although that does provide a sweet excuse.
The dangerous, for-no-logical-reason driving witnessed each time we drive has been a growing part of everyday driving for over 20 years. People have become lawless. They have developed a desire inflict pain upon others. And beyond inflicting pain, many drivers exhibit a conscious need to overtly interfere with others.
These needs explain the numerous examples we experience each and every time we drive to the store, work, or anywhere.
Many people routinely drive through red lights and stop signs, speed, and drive dangerously close to the car in front of them. If anyone driving these ways thought briefly, he would realize that each of these driving styles result in saving -- at best -- a few seconds, but will likely eventually result in damage and injury.
The question is, "Why do so many people feel the need to break the law, interact, aggressively threaten other people, and inflict discomfort?"
The answer goes beyond juvenile behavior or economic ills. The fact is that Americans' respect for traffic laws and common sense has been destroyed. Driving patterns are now dictated by other types of drivers and changed into a reckless disregard for traffic laws. This is the new rule of the road. Others mandate their driving mode upon us by example.
Many Americans have now been trained to run lights & stop signs and tailgate. The nastiest, more juvenile, and envious aggressively work to goad a street confrontation.
It is frustrating for anyone who simply wants to drive a great machine and be left alone.
Welcome to the new -- we're not going back to 1965 -- America.
